Labeobarbus johnstoni is living as well in rocky environments as in sandy environments. They can be found in entire Lake Malawi. There are two varieties of this species. The variety which is living in the rocky environments has stone-hard horned lips. With these lips they grate the algae from the rocks with which they are feeding themselves. The other variety, which mainly can be found above sandbottoms, doesn't have such lips. This one mainly is feeding itself with small fish, snails and crabs. They can reach a total lenght of about 60 cm. So, this species can be kept best in a real big tank, because of the size they grow to, and with more of them together. |
